Early yesterday morning, tragedy struck a Makati neighborhood as a fire tore through homes in Barangay Comembo, destroying property worth P6 million and injuring three people.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stated in a report that the fire started after 4 a.m. and reached the second alarm before 5 a.m.
The fire was suppressed after nearly two hours.
According to Senior Fire Officer 4 Jaime Macababayo, an eight-year-old boy sustained second-degree burns while fleeing for his life. The fire injured two locals, ages 63 and 43, who were then taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to the BFP, the fire may have started in a home whose occupants had left a light on while they were away on vacation. The flames spread fast to surrounding dwellings. Fire causes have not yet been determined, according to arson investigators.
Before leaving their houses, people were warned to use caution and make sure all appliances were unplugged.
Fire Prevention Month is observed in March.
