Falcon, also known as Khanun internationally, strengthened further and entered the typhoon category late on Sunday, according to the state weather bureau.

It is now 11 p.m. According to a weather bulletin from PAGASA, Falcon was last seen 1,090 kilometers east of the most northern part of Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of up to 140 kph around the center and gusts as high as 170 kph.

It is presently traveling at a speed of 15 kph toward the north-northwest and is predicted to leave the Philippine area of responsibility between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The southwest monsoon, or habagat, which will produce sporadic to monsoon rainfall over the western parts of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days, is still being enhanced by Falcon, according to PAGASA, despite the lack of tropical cyclone wind signals.

In areas that are vulnerable to flooding and landslides, PAGASA also issued a warning.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” it said. “Forecast rainfall are generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas.

Over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Lubang Island, Kalayaan Islands, Cuyo Islands, Romblon, the northwest corner of Antique, Camarines Sur, and Albay, the falcon-enhanced habagat is also anticipated to create gusty conditions.

Due to the intensified habagat, a gale warning was still in effect over various coastal waterways around Luzon’s western seaboard. Small seacrafts are at risk when traveling at sea. “Operating in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels for larger vessels,” PAGASA advised.

On Saturday, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro are predicted to receive significant rainfall from the strengthened southwest monsoon.

Rainfall in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Antique, and northern Palawan could range from light to moderate to heavy at times. Over Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and the majority of Calabarzon, the Bicol area, and Western Visayas, gusty conditions are predicted.

In the upcoming days, PAGASA predicted that heavy gusts of wind will be present over much of Luzon and Visayas. Along the coasts of Visayas and Luzon, a gale warning is in place.
